Police and Criminal Justice Reform
SAFER CITIES REQUIRE TRUST
Law enforcement plays an important role in our communities, they are there to protect and serve, and to keep our communities safe. With the rise of hate crimes and violence in our city, their role is an important and dangerous one. The city must make sure our law enforcement is being used effectively and that means getting communities more involved in how they operate within their borders.
The following are policies I plan to bring to City Council:
-
Ending Qualified Immunity
-
Ending No-Knock Raids
-
Ending Civil Asset Forfeiture
-
Ending School to Prison Pipeline
-
NYPD settlements MUST be paid from NYPD pension, not by taxpayers.
-
Full Decriminalization of all drugs. Expunge all criminal records of drug charges. Immediate release of all prisoners sentenced for drug charges.
-
Full Decriminalization of sex work. (Not the Nordic Mode, Not the Equality Model, Full Decrim or NOTHING) Expunge all criminal records of sex work related charges. Immediate release of all prisoners sentenced for sex work charges.
-
End all mandatory minimums.
-
End Cash Bail.
-
Enhanced protection under NYC Whistleblower Laws for any officer that comes forward against one or more officers who engaged in racial profiling, police brutality, etc.
-
We will not criminalize the homeless. We will push to create safer and trusted places to get those working New Yorkers back on their feet and those who suffer from addiction and mental health the place and help they need to recover and rehabilitate their lives.
